Life is a reflection of
your thoughts.
Change your thoughts.
Change your life.

Mirror Mirror
“Mirror mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all?”
In the fairy tale Snow White, it is the mirror that responds to the Queen’s question. But in real life we know that it isn’t the mirror that responds but the Queen herself. It is her thoughts that is creating her reality.
You Create Your Reality
So too life mirrors your thoughts. Your thoughts are powerful – they can create a life of great joy and excitement or one of stress, anxiety and misery.
Be aware of your thoughts constantly and how those thoughts are affecting how you experience the present moment.
It’s In Your Memes
Have you ever caught yourself saying things or doing things much like your parents did? As a teenager do you remember promising yourself that you would raise your own children differently? As children we are influenced so much by those around us. We learn about relationships and happiness and how to communicate with others from our core relationships – our family and parents.
Just like certain physical traits are carried genetically from generation to generation, certain thought patterns can also be transferred through the generations. These ideas or behaviours are called memes.
An example may be that you are careful not to leave any food on the plate even if you feel that you will be uncomfortably full. Maybe your parents or grandparents lived through the Great Depression or survived great poverty and these thoughts have been carried through the generations. Some memes are useful and can really be of benefit, others, can see us go from one dis-functional relationship to the next.
Happiness Is Learned
There is no school where we learn how to be happy. Instead, we learn from those around us – some may not be such great role models. Just become aware of those who may have influenced your thoughts. Don’t blame them, instead, it may be time to cut off from the past and realise that happiness is always now. And now is always the best time to be aware of your thoughts. You have the power to change your thoughts and so change your life experiences through different decisions you make.
Mirror Image
Resolve right now to observe your thoughts. Don’t berate yourself if you catch yourself having negative thoughts. Just simply be aware of them.
A great exercise is to simply to stand in front of the mirror for a few moments. You may have thoughts like
“I’m fat, who would ever love you”, or “I wish I was beautiful” or “I’ll never amount to anything much” or “who could really love me”
– again, don’t get upset at yourself for thinking these thoughts. Simply be aware of them.
Now next be aware of how these thoughts make you feel. Do you feel sadness in your heart, or an uncomfortable feeling in your throat? Could these thoughts subliminally affect how you allow others to speak to you? If you have a low opinion of yourself, do you think others may subliminally treat you in a certain way?
Now, how about instead, simply by being aware of your thoughts and understanding that negative thoughts make you feel, well, not very good, that you resolve to break that pattern of thinking when you see it coming up. Understand that they are just thoughts – they are not reality until we allow them to take hold of our reality/ Our thoughts are filters on our world and can colour our life experiences.
Pattern Interrupt
Maybe your thoughts may see you create certain patterns in your life, like meeting the ‘wrong men’. Awareness is the key to breaking these patterns and possibly generational memes. Awareness will allow you to see the mirror images you are creating of your mind. Awareness will allow you to look in the mirror and create a life of happiness, one where the person in the mirror is smiling back at you.
Remember, life is a mirror of your thoughts. Look into the mirror and create the life you deserve.
